FAQS

How early should I engage with Escuelita if I'm interested in enrolling my child?

We encourage prospective parents to reach out as soon as they can to ensure a space. If we don't have immediate availability for your child or children, you will be added to an active waitlist. You can either reach out directly to Yesenia Muniz, Director, at 216-651-9678 or escuelitadeohiocity@gmail.com or fill out this waiting list form.

How many children are at Escuelita?

We can enroll up to 50 children. Typically, we have 10-15 families enrolled. Our staff to student ratio varies by age group so we can provide your child with the best experience possible.

Infants (6 wks - 18 mos) One staff person for every five children.

Toddlers (18 mos - 3 yrs) One staff person for every seven children.

Preschool (3 yrs - 5 yrs) One staff person for every ten children.

School Age (5 yrs - 11 yrs) One staff person for every fourteen children.

What food is provided? Is formula included?

A healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack are a regular part of our routine and provided by Escuelita. A fee of $1.50/day is added to tuition to cover the cost of meals.

We ask that infant families provide their own formula or breast milk. Bottles will be labeled with the child’s name. Mothers are always welcome to feed their babies at anytime during the day.

For children with food allergies, we work with parents to develop a safe eating plan.

There is an application fee of $65 for one child or $110 for each family.

What activities do the children participate in?

Our teachers take pride in a creative curriculum and look to each child to guide their individual learning focus. Daily lessons are planned around the interests of the whole group, with an eye towards Kindergarten readiness. We are always focused on the major Developmental Domains (physical, cognitive, language, and social-emotional) for each child. For example, we might work on fine-motor skills with one child while another focuses on gross-motor skill development.

Daily activities might include art and craft projects, story-time, music, and outdoor exploration. We also offer children free-choice time to encourage imaginative play.

The Ohio City neighborhood is a part of our “campus” too. You’ll often find us exploring the near-by community garden and chicken coops, learning about nature, or heading off to one of the area playgrounds or splash-pads. Parents are asked to sign a permission slip when enrolling a child.

Do you speak Spanish to the children at the Center?

Language fuels our brains and frames our thoughts. We’re proud to be a bilingual Center and teach children conversational Spanish to enrich their thinking and communication skills.

Are younger or new siblings prioritized for enrollment?

We have many sets of siblings, past and present, at Escuelita de Ohio City! We are proud to be a consistent part of our parents' "village" as they add to their families. We always try to accommodate the timing of new siblings and do prioritize our families that currently have children enrolled.

Where is Escuelita de Ohio City located?

Our street address is 3919 Lorain Ave. Our building is tucked behind the Gather ‘Round Garden and The Forty-One apartments.
